”The eaters of the dead are back and they are hungry”, a spooky voice blazes in the hard-rock intro, dragging you into the mood of their newest opus, “RETURN OF THE BZFOS“.
In the very first track the quartet pounces on the unsuspecting listener like a hungry vampire, with blood and guts flying. By the fifth track, “Countess Dracula”, the blood is flowing and everyone should be diving in and feasting in the devilish ritual. One Horrorbilly hit after the other jumps at the listener. A totally insane mix of Psychobilly, Rockabilly and Horrorpunk with a twist of Metal creates something brand new, a blossom black with fresh blood. Sick taxidermist „love songs“ or sing-along anthems featuring weird and evil stories, darkness with an especially diabolical splendor. Be prepared to be completely mesmerized by the time the melodic “Bleed” comes on, with its dark harmony seeping out of an old organ. This would certainly please psycho-organ fan, Dr. Phibes. The graphics are once again a strong point. The cover was designed by none other than Erneste Spoerr, who has illustrated many John Sinclair volumes. There is a bonus inside leaf in a corresponding style, all with a Horror, monster and morbid cemetery feel. We have pressed 105 records in blue vinyl and 410 in black vinyl.
The result: The boys demonstrate once again their ability to create a successful package of horror, full of variety that should appeal to Psycho and Rockabilly freaks as well as some Gothics, Metalheads and Punks.
P.S. At the end, don’t skip the Outro. It will pretty much leave you speechless!
In closing, Richy gladly offers commentary on the individual songs:
INTRO
Of course, the Intro is heavily influenced by the trailer for “Return of the Living Dead”, with Rene from The Brains doing the voice-over, and for the “Fake-Hard Rock Title song” we can thank our mate Franky B. from the Metal band “Succeed“.
MAX THE TAXIDERMIST
Inspired by a short story about a taxidermist who over time becomes more interested in human specimens rather than animals…the centerpiece is an homage to Alfred Hitchcocks “Psycho“.
BLOODSHED BOYS
Tongue in cheek “Self-confidence”. “Don’t mess with the BZFOS!” The sound of the beer bottle opening at the end took a lot practice, haha.
MONDO VIDEO
As a Horror fan, over the years one meets a lot of weirdos who think they have found a like-minded conversational partner in me. This song deals with a total idiot who texted me for hours after a concert about “snuff movies” and “shockumentaries”
COUNTESS DRACULA
Our obligatory reminiscence on a Hammer film. Naturally, it’s about Countess Erzsébet Báthory.
TROMAVILLE
As a confessed Troma film fan, a musical homage to Lloyd Kaufman was way overdue! We tried toconvince him to do a voice-over, which was unfortunately not possible due to his busy schedule, so we borrowed his voice from a video. I believe that this approach is very much in the spirit of Troma and therefore permitted.
PLAINFIELD
Another love song wrapped up in the life story of Ed Gein! One of my personal favorites on this album.
DR. FREUDSTEIN
Lucio Fulcis “House by the Cemetery” is my absolute favourite film and it was long overdue to write a song about it.
HORRORMOVIE ADDICT
100% autobiographical, every word is true. No wonder some people think I’m not playing with a full deck.
I WANNA HEAR YOU SCREAM
This is one of the songs that we first tried out “live“ and always got good feedback. In retrospect, we are no longer totally happy with its somewhat Metal-feeling guitar solo, but what can we do…
NO REST FOR THE LIVING
How it looks – the sad life of one of the “living dead”…
SHOCKROCK ROMANCE
Just a cliché -- “Sex – Horror & Rock´n Roll“
PUBLIC VAMPIRE NO. 1
Our homage to the immortal Bela Lugosi
BLEED
Ending a long-term relationship is always hard…for the one who has left just as much as for the one has been left. This is from the viewpoint of the one who left … and sometimes there comes a moment when the tears become something like a blood hemorrhage… This is what the song is about.
RIGOR MORTIS ROCK
Psycho-Rockabilly Song which has Jim Evilize’s best guitar solo to date, in my opinion. The text was inspired by a poem in an old “Famous Monster of Filmland“ Magazine.
OUTRO
The Reverend was blowing off a bit of steam here.
