INFO:

No doubt, the first LINDENPUNK-FESTIVAL is one of the most popular in-door-events which took place in Potsdam in 2006. No wonder! There some of the most famous HARDCORE-bands, Oi!-bands, PUNK-bands and PSYCHOBILLY-bands came together for an unforgettable live-concert.

Read the anonymous visitors report for further information.

The festival which took place for the first time this year was convincing as an event with a great and well planned program. It was perhaps so good that the organizer DESERT FOX EVENTS had nearly sold out before the festival had begun. Still nobody knows how one could organize such a fantastic program but honestly that is not very important. More important is the event itself. Therefore we are proud that we can present the digital summary of this evening as a lavishly produced DVD.

STORY:

It is Saturday the 29 th of October 2005. The inhabitants of Potsdam-Babelsberg are disturbed by something. Windows are bolted and cars got to safety. Most of the people don’t even leave their homes. Anyone who is still out gets a real move on to get home. There are cops everywhere and six-packs driving up and down the streets. Brandenburgs capital is in a state of emergency.

Punks and Skins from near and far, the Hardcore faction and also some Psychobillys and Rock’n Roll fans are here to pay Potsdam , this beautiful city, a visit. The reasons for this side trip aren’t the princes gardens or a football game. It has been public knowledge for a long time: today the LINDENPUNK FESTIVAL will take place.

The organizer DESERT FOX EVENTS has prepared something very special for this evening. There will be playing:

· THEE FLANDERS – wild and crazy Psychobilly from Potsdam

· FAR FROM FINISHED – Boston HC

· DRITTE WAHL – political German Punk from Rostock

· LOIKAEMIE – Oi!-Skinhead-music from Plauen

· THE REAL McKENZIES – backpipe Punk from Canada

· THE EXPLOITED – cult Punk from Scotland

From the early afternoon crowds of visitors have been arriving at the building where the event will take place, the “Lindenpark“. The forecourt fills visibly and the party begins. Then the first beer bottles are opened and everyone warbles cheerfully the songs of the beloved bands. The organizer is well prepared. Barriers and trained staff keep the great mass of people under control and show the way into the building.

The drinking goes on and souvenirs are bought. At 8 p.m. the dump is jam-packed. The organizer announces: “sold out“. It’s a shock for the remaining visitors outside. They stay where they are hoping for a miracle.

Then the first band starts. Swashes of mist, gloomy light and tomb stones… THEE FLANDERS rise out of the grave to give the expectant rabble the creeps. As the first beats emerged out of the distance the crowd changes into a wild mob possessed by the Devil. The psychos, bloody and pale, give their best. Songs about death and madness and some coversongs make the fans rotate with the flats. Many sing along every single line. Small wonder, the 5 Punkabillys have a home advantage. After fourth minutes of ecstatic music enjoyment the show ends.

A perfect timing … and after a few minutes of changing the evening goes on.

FAR ROM FINISHED stands on the blanks. They were originally thought to be the outsiders of the event. Now they manage to make everyone’s heartbeat faster by a clash of aggressive New-York-hardcore and classical Boston-street-punk. With great sing-a-longs, catchy melodies and typical moshparts they hit it off marvellously with the military-trousers-wearing visitors and the “hood faction”.

One band follows the other in quick succession. Now, DRITTE WAHL is on the stage. In the meantime the dance floor has completely filled. When the first sound rings out the crowd is already flipping and bawling. The three from Rostock splash out. Hardly anyone knows as good as they do how to combine elements of Punk and Metal with expressive texts. The atmosphere becomes suddenly calm and thoughtful, when the boys sing a song in honour of their deceased Basser Bush’n. Very brave to go on after such a stroke of fate! The professional and highbrow show deserves it to be called excellent.

Half-time. Everyone expects a pause. Tough! While one or other gives up LOIKAEMIE climbs the stage and takes command. The band leads off with “skinheads to remember” and the crowd goes wild. Hit after hit hails down on the raging audience. The four have a bloody good moan about the ill society and the stupidity of men. A musical sweeping blow - everyone gets his come-uppance.

Meanwhile the temperature reminds of a sauna. Sweat drips from the ceiling. The airing is on its last legs. The mob is nearly in a state of ecstasy. Alcohol, music and heat reveal a dangerous mixture and some visitors fall by the wayside.

Also THE REAL McKENZIES don’t need to worry about attendance figures. The hard-drinking minstrels with kilt and backpipes radiate some kind of “public festival mood”. At this moment at the latest everyone is dancing. During the set you can drink to the evening with Mr. McKenzie and his boys or throw a glance under the short tartan skirts. After they’ve sang many songs about Scotland , woman, Nessie and of course alcohol the overexerted Canadians say goodbye. Midnight has already past.

Young people who have lost their bearings, hysterical girlies and some breakdowns are characteristic for the situation before the final.

Is the crowd still able to pull itself up? But as the question is occurring suddenly a man appears on the stage and roars into the microphone. The guitars sound like lashes of whip, the bass joins in and the drums take the rhythm. Of course… EXPLOITED comes over us. Over and done with! They hit the audience over the head with hatred songs like mad. On the stage Wattie rotates like a lion in a cage. A lurking posture and a rigid look in his eyes alternates with apparently uncontrollable fits of rage. The former professional soldier sings the songs of the last decades (“let’s start a war”, “beat the bastards”, “troops of tomorrow”…) as if he were in a state of ecstasy. Masspogo and stage diving are on the program. The staffs at the stage have its hands full. The culmination is “Sex and violence”, when front man and audience trash each other verbally in turns. After a few encores the marathon of punk music is over. The fans stagger out of the hall. Wounds are fixed up and tatty spikes are set upright.

For me this was one of the best events this year…bloody hell I’m looking forward to the LINDENPUNK Pt. II - 10.28.2006.

Best regards

Mr. Fx
